Read about the Benefits of Coaching

The Center for Creative Leadership’s Clemson Turregano in the Leading Effectively e-newsletter-February 2008 issue suggests, Senior Executives “benefit from leadership coaching by building on existing strengths, develop new strategies for leading in new or complex situations, and push their goals forward.”  In addition,  “for middle managers, coaching can reinvigorate a job or even a career. A coach can help a leader identify strengths, skills to be developed and strategies for improvement. Coaching can focus on achieving goals within a leader’s current job or move in new directions.” To read this article: : http://www.ccl.org/leadership/enewsletter/2008/FEBresults.aspx

According to a (2005) study sponsored by Sonoma Learning Systems called Leadership Practices, Adaptive Corporate Culture, and Company Financial Performance, “Leadership and culture matter. Both are key drivers of a company’s long-term financial performance and adaptability.” In addition, “companies that strengthen their ability to adapt, by applying specific leadership and cultural practices, substantially outperform those that don’t” (p.2). The study found companies who have high levels of financial performance utilize transformational leadership practices. Abstract

Despite the espoused values of equal access, a theory in use of equal access to leadership is absent. The purpose of this descriptive correlational research study was to determine the degree to which organizational cultural values and leadership behaviors effect organizational learning among public sector leaders.  Survey results: Significant mean differentials and interactions between Municipal vs. State, Ethnicity & Gender; Females do not see correlations and Males have negative correlations between work related values and leadership; Females have a single loop learning profile.  Leaders need to address organizational learning disabilities. Significance of findings: Enlighten Leaders on consequences of utilization of single/double loop learning; the culture in which public policies/processes are developed/influenced; inform Human Resource; Training departments and MPA degree curriculum.
